Conclusion
Blood is a more physiological
vehicle of cardioplegia than crystalloid solutions. Blood-based cardioplegia
was associated with lower lactate levels at the end of pediatric cardiac
surgery and higher rates of spontaneous normal sinus rhythm after the removal
of the aortic cross-clamp.
